Bombshell Brows

Aftercare Instructions

The following is a list of tips to help you maximize your healing:

  • Ointment only for the first day, this is what we applied at the end of your appointment.
  • No water for the first 3 days on the treated area. Wash your face with a washcloth or cotton pads and avoid the treatment area.
  • From  day 3 to 7 the area may be gently rinsed with water and blotted dry. If you have oily skin, you can use pure witch hazel alone or mixed with aloe juice to keep the area clean instead of water.
  • Starting day 4 only use the after care we have provided for you, or petroleum free  and oil free lotion (Glysomed unscented is a great alternative).
  • After day 7 a gentle scent free cleanser may be used, DO NOT SCRUB OR PICK  the treated area, this is the epithelial crust that forms and starts to flake off. If you do, you may damage the skin and pull out the pigment.
  • If  you have uncomfortable itching, do not scratch, you can use a cold pack or blot with cotton pads saturated in bactine spray to relieve the sensation.
  • Do not touch the treated area without washing your hands.
  • NO MAKEUP on the treated area for 7 days. Make up can be applied around the area but take special care not to get any in the area due to the risk of infection or other complications.
  • No hair growth serum or brow tinting for 30 days.
  • No sun tanning for 2 WEEKS. Keep brows out of direct sunlight.
  • If excess swelling, redness, oozing or pain occurs, please consult your doctor immediately
  • ALL brows will heal differently depending on the person’s skin whether it be oily, dry or more prone to scabbing or healing slowly. Some people may result in an additional touch up, again depending on how they have healed and how their skin takes the pigmentation.

F.A.Q.

(Frequently Asked Questions)

What is brow tattooing or microblading?

Microblading is a form of tattooing also called brow feathering or 3d brows, to achieve this look we implant pigment into the first layer of the skin using sterilized- disposable handheld method with a fine needle doing hair like strokes. Microshading is still the same method but gives a softer powdered brow. These methods are known as a semi-permanent tattoo.

What to expect from your brow tattoo?

Whether your brows are sparse and uneven, or you’re looking for a low-maintenance, polished appearance, brow tattooing can enhance your current arches. Benefits include:

  • The look of full and even brows

  • Sweat and waterproof

  • Camouflages sparse areas for a natural look

  • Hides scars

  • Semi-permanent, which allows adjustment to your brow shape as you age or as beauty trends change

What is the process?

Pre Appointment

For best results, we recommend the following:

  • Stop using any skin thinners (Vitamin A, glycolic acids, exfoliation) on the brow area 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

  • Any waxing or brow shaping should be done at least 2 days in advance.

  • If you tint your brows, tint at least one week in advance.

  • Cosmetic Botox or fillers should be done 2 weeks in advance.

  • No chemical peels, dermabrasion, mesotherapy or any other intense treatments. This will cause skin cells to rejuvenate faster which will result in skin irritation. We recommend any of these to be done 2-3 weeks before microblading.

  • Fix and/or wash your hair before the treatment. You will not be able to have direct contact with water on the area for 7 days.

  • Bring examples of brow shapes you like to the appointment.

  • You may experience hypersensitivity and more pain around or during your menstrual cycle.

  • We will not be able to tattoo over any blemishes, sores, and moles in or around the brow area.

Consultation & Brow Design (30 min)

Please bring any brow example photos that catch your eye. As artists, we will work with you to shape and design a set of brows that highlights your natural facial features. From there, we choose a pigment match based on your skin tone and hair color.

Numbing (30 min)

We want you to be as comfortable as possible! Prior to the procedure, a topical anesthetic (5% lidocaine ointment) is applied. We also layer an additional numbing agent during the tattooing. If you feel nervous or would like the numbing to sit on longer, please contact me and i can send you home with some numbing cream to be applied before your apt, you can let it sit for about an hour before you arrive.

IF YOU CHOOSE TO NUMB BEFORE YOUR APT, please contact me and i can give you numbing cream to apply 1 hour before your apt, this way your time will be adjusted.

Tattooing (30-60 min)

Your tattoo artist will carefully create small strokes of pigment that mimic the appearance of natural brow hair within the designed shape.

Post Appointment Healing

The full, deep healing process takes 6-8 weeks; however, your visible top layers of skin will heal after 2 weeks. Your brows will experience a few normal mild side effects (slight redness, itchiness and peeling), which clients compare to the feeling of a sunburn. Expect your tattoo to appear darker for the first 3-5 days. After day 4 or 5, light peeling will occur, revealing lighter and softer hair strokes.Long-term aftercare is crucial for the longevity of your brow investment. More information is available on our After Care page.

What will my healed brow tattoo look like?

Your results will vary depending on skin type, lifestyle and the immediate and long-term aftercare of your new tattoo. Once healed (after 6 weeks), the color will reduce by 30-50 percent (depending on your skin). Patchiness and lightness can be perfected during your second session, some people may scab heavier than others, so stay calm pieces missing or faded is normal.

Will I need a touch up after my initial appointment?

The majority of our clients require 2 sessions to have their brows perfected. Touch up appointments can be made 6-8 weeks after your first apt. Clients with fuller brows may not need additional touch ups; however, clients with little or no natural brow hairs, or have corrected work, may need further density added.

After we’ve achieved your desired brow, an annual touch up is highly recommended to maintain the tattoos.

How long will the final results last?

Your brow tattoo will last 1-3 years depending on lifestyle, sun exposure and skin type. Oilier skin types tend to fade quicker than drier skin types. Most clients will get a touch up done by 6 months to a year.

Will brow tattooing be painful?

To ensure maximum comfort during the procedure we use a topical numbing with 5% lidocaine prior and during your procedure. (I use Zensa or Dr. Numb) Since pain tolerance and sensitivity varies individually, we can’t say exactly how it will feel for you. The procedure uses a smaller needle than traditional tattooing and should hurt significantly less. Clients have related the procedure with eyebrow threading, plucking multiple hairs at once or a light scratching of the skin. You may experience more sensitivity if the procedure is performed during or near your menstrual cycle. I will RE-NUMB you during the procedure

Will natural brow hairs be removed during the process?

We incorporate as much of the natural brow hairs as possible. Any strays that lay outside of the brows design will be removed. If you get waxed or threaded usually, feel free to do so a couple days before your apt.(Not the day before or day of as this will make your brows more sensitive.) Some clients have even noticed hair growth in their brows after having microblading done.

can I get tattooed while i’m pregnant?

Although microblading is a safe and low risk procedure, for your own safety and peace of mind, I Kayla Thorne will not tattoo any clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you discover you are pregnant and have an appointment scheduled, please notify us so we can reschedule and make future arrangements.

Can I get tattooed if I’m on accutane?

We will not tattoo any one who is on Accutane as the medications places you at risk for hypersensitivity, scarring and hyper pigmentation. Your skin needs 12 months to normalize prior to a tattoo.

Will cosmetic tattooing work well for me?

If you have extremely oily skin to extremely dry skin, the hair stroke eyebrow technique will NOT always work well for you. The constant production of oil will cause the hair strokes to heal with a diffused, softer look. Your end result can look more powdery than defined. As for very dry skin your brows may have a harder time holding the pigment, so be sure to keep them moisturized. If you have little to no existing hair, your tattoo will appear more two-dimensional than those clients who have more hair naturally. If you are a frequent smoker, your pigment may fade sooner.  If you are iron deficient or anemic, your pigment may fade sooner and bleeding/bruising may occur during and after the procedure. Keep in mind, tattoos that were previously done else where can take longer to achieve the desired look you are going for. example: lots of scar tissue, tattoo faded blue, green, red etc. this will result in a tattoo cover up/correction so PRICES MAY VARY.

How will my cosmetic tattoo look in the future?

During your appointment, we will analyze your skin’s undertone to anticipate how pigment colours will fade in the future. We also mix pigments to ensure the colour blends well with your existing eyebrow and hair colour.

The majority of our clients’ tattoos stay true to colour and lighten naturally over time; however, in some cases colours may fade to different tones according to the individual’s response to the pigments.

Many factors affect these changes, such as lifestyle and iron deficiencies. At your follow up appointment, we will re-analyze how your body has responded to the initial colour. Special formula alteration to correct the colour and to prevent further change is made at this time. Your eyebrow tattoo will eventually look softer and have more of a “powdered” look. This happens with all clients as the skin ages and how you care for your brows. To keep your hair strokes looking good, a refresher appointment is suggested every 1 to 2 years. Results vary with each client.

Is the studio and equipment safe?

Absolutely! We pride ourselves on having an immaculate and sterile studio space. We only practice with single use, disposable needles and supplies. This means each set-up for a new client is safely discarded afterwards. Each of our stations are thoroughly disinfected before opening and after each procedure throughout the day.

I am blood borne pathogens certified and Alberta Health Services approved.

Can you guarantee my work?

No. I will guarantee that my work and your face are very important to me and I will do what I can to give you the look that you desire, but due to variable circumstances I do not know what the exact outcome will be, therefore I cannot guarantee your results and you choose to have this cosmetic procedure done at your own risk.
